Michael Melendez became involved in the liberty movement as a high school senior when he saw Ron Paul during the YouTube Debates in 2007. Since then he has been active in Campaign for Liberty (C4L), Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), Students For Liberty (SFL), and College Republicans. He founded a YAL chapter at Brigham Young University (BYU) in 2011 and became the state chairman for Utah in 2013. He has served as the Vice Chair and Recruitment Director for the Utah Federation of College Republicans. During the 2013-2014 school year, Michael acted as the SFL Campus Coordinator for Utah and Idaho.

During the 2014 Legislative Session, Michael served as the Chief of Staff to state Senator Howard Stephenson, helping pass significant reforms in education, government drone use, and civil asset forfeiture. Since April 2014, he has done full-time government relations work for the Waterford Institute, a digital education non-profit. He graduated in 2015 from BYU, majoring in Genealogy. Michael was appointed to serve as the 2014-2015 By-Laws and Rules Chair for the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC).

Michael currently serves as the treasurer for the Utah Republican Hispanic Assembly and has become the "go-to" campaign consultant for liberty-minded Republicans seeking public office in Utah.
